Well, I'm going to start off by saying that I wasn't supposed to be at softball at all today. I was supposed to be working Tennis which is where I went first, but the coaches decided to cancel intermission (when our main promotion is done) so the full-time marketing member just said we could go home.
Instead of going home I decided I was going to go watch the softball game to see if Mizzou could take 2 of 3 from Auburn. Well, I get there and I decide I'm going to go say hello to other interns and when I get over one of them says "Good, I need your help because I'm not sure if I understand all this correctly." So, I ended helping with that which was getting the team lined up for the national anthem, as well as getting the singer and the play ball kid ready. I thought maybe that was going to be it, but I ended up helping quite a bit because I don't think a lot of it was explained very well by the main marketing guy. Since I had done the previous two games I knew what needed to be done so the other interns were relying on my help. It was good to be recognized by my fellow interns as someone that knows what is going on. I tried to stay off to the side and let them do the work while just answering any questions they had, but I did have to do a couple things just to make sure everything went smoothly.
With all that said, it is days like today where it just becomes more and more clear how much I want to work in sports. I went to the softball game with the intention of watching the game, but I ended up working, and I didn't care at all. I love working these events and while there is a lot more to working in sports than just the events I really enjoy that most of the time too. There is of course some work that nobody will enjoy (including me), but for the most part it is all good.
The sad thing about the day was that Mizzou couldn't pull out the win, and lost 10-8.
