I took over today. Quite a few of my fellow interns are on Spring Break and the other intern that was supposed to work got sick, so it was just me. It was good though. Everything we did went very smooth.
I manned the marketing table for the first hour or so I was there. I gave out posters, schedule cards, and gold glittery headbands to kids under 12 (all girls I believe). During that time I also found my play ball kid. He was a pretty cool and very talkative kid.
I also had to get two local under 12 softball teams (red & blue and black & green in the picture above) out on the field for the national anthem and team introduction. Luckily, both teams really listened really well and it was easy to get them out there. I almost forgot that before I that I had to get the national anthem singer ready to go. She had done baseball before and it was essentially the same, I just had to show her where to stand. It was also soon after this that my play ball kid actually said play ball and he did a great job.
During the game we did a "Dance for you Dinner" contest where fans stood up and danced and I had to pick a winner. There were only like 5 people that danced (everyone was too cold) and that lady that one was by far the most enthusiastic. She probably wasn't the best dancer, but she really got with it.
At the end of the 3rd we had a race to the outfield featuring 3 girls I had picked earlier in the game (forget to mention getting them). The girl that won literally ran out of her shoes. It was quite funny because her shoes came flying off, but she didn't miss a beat. She just kept right on running. She won a softball signed by the team and was very happy. They were some pretty great little girls.
We were supposed to have a t-shirt toss at the end of the 5th, but everybody was leaving by that point. It was cold and the team wasn't doing great. We decided to scrap the toss until another day where it was warmer and the team was playing better.
As you can probably tell, the team lost pretty badly. Auburn won 14-6 and it was actually called at the end of the 5th due to the run rule. Hopefully there is a better outcome for tomorrow's game which I will also be working.
