While I had been at a couple baseball games earlier in the season, this was the first one where I actually did anything. I was really glad there was another intern there that had done all of it before because I was able to ask her question Megan and/or Michael didn't answer. She also basically showed me everything we needed to do because we were basically assigned to be partners.
I guess before I get too ahead of myself I should say I started today out with office hours. I didn't do much at that point because nobody was there. Michael and Megan were already at Taylor Stadium and Schuster and John were both in St. Louis for the NCAA Wrestling Championships. I cleaned up the intern office a little bit and had the NCAA Tournament on the computer until I went to Taylor. I even left to go to Taylor quite a bit early because I was getting bored sitting in the office with nothing to do.
The first thing I did at the baseball game was set up the marketing table. We have baseball posters, schedule cards, cup pick-up for season ticket holders, and we try to get people to sign up for Ks for K-9s. Nothing too difficult. I only had to work the table for a little bit because we also had the Tiger Crew (formerly known as Diamond Dolls) helping us with that.
I did have to help find someone for the first pitch which we got a 9 year old boy that was pretty excited. I also had to help find a contestant for the Betz Trivia Contest and the Quarter Minute to Win It. The trivia contest had the contestant try to correctly answer a trivia question we put on the video board. He got it wrong, but we gave him a t-shirt anyway. The Quarter Minute to Win It gave the contestant 15 seconds to say as many different candies as he could. We then put a previously recorded baseball player doing the same thing. Our contestant lost that too, but he also still got a t-shirt.
The last thing I had to help with was finding 1-3 kids to sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" for the 7th inning stretch. We found two boys who did a great job. They seemed a little nervous, but after everyone started singing with them they calmed down and did awesome.
The Tigers also helped out matters with a 3-2 win over the #6 Gamecocks! The series continues today at 2:35 pm (I'll be there).
