The streak is finally over! Namon Wright put on a show tonight to help the Tigers finally win a game after losing 13 in a row.
Other than the team finally winning a game, tonight was a pretty standard basketball game. I got there early so I help set up the parachute drop. That was really the only thing that needed to be done that early so I basically sat around until the other interns showed up.
Once people started to show up I had to pick the seat upgrade winners. Pretty self-explanatory and pretty easy. I just find two people from the upper deck and move them down to row 4 of the lower level. Most people go for it straightaway, but I've had to convince a couple people before.
After that I waited until about 10 minutes left on the clock and had to go back in the tunnel to radio when the team was leaving the tunnel. That was something new and it was easy, but it was still fun. What made it even more fun was the fact that one player forgot his jersey, realized it about halfway down the hallway, and then had to run back to put in on. Quite a few people had a laugh at that.
During the game I had to make sure Truman (the mascot) was in position for the seat upgrade. They are shown on the scoreboard and have to wave and do all of that. Truman comes over to make it a little less awkward. I think I broke a little's kids heart though because I had to tell him that he couldn't go see Truman during the promotion.
After that I had to go up to the rafter again to get prepared for the parachute drop. Had to basically run up there because the under 12 media timeout took so long to happen. Parachute drop happens at the under 8 timeout and I got up to the rafter with about 8:30 left. Barely had enough time to catch my breath before we had to drop.
During halftime I helped the Tiger Scholarship Fund recognize 6 or 7 people that had been season ticket holders for something like 40+ years. It was pretty easy for me. Just get them lined up and walk them to mid-court. It was cool knowing that these people had been coming to as many basketball games as possible for that long.
Finally, I assisted in the Adelman Vacations Shot. The girl had 3 chances to make 1 three point basket in order to have a chance to win free roundtrip airfare for a vacation. Unfortunately she missed, but she still had a good time.
After that I just got to watch the game. It was exciting being there the team's first win in what seems like forever.
