Tonight was pretty much a typical baseball game. We had our National Anthem singer, our play ball kid, and three first pitches (which was the only thing that was different). My main responsibilities today were the people throwing the first pitches, the delivery of the game where we toss out popcorn to the loudest fans, and the 7th inning stretch.
The first pitches went off without a hitch except one of the people didn't listen to us and he threw the ball practically right when he got out to the mound. He was supposed to listen to the PA announcer and wait for him to say when to pitch. It wasn't that big of a deal though and stuff like that happens. We just moved on and it was fine. After I got done with that I had to wait until the middle of the 2nd inning for the popcorn delivery.
Apparently my popcorn delivering skills are quite hilarious and I definitely bring amp city (one of the marketing staff members calls it that). It is quite outside my comfort zone, but I yell and try to get people on their feet. Some of the other interns just kind of hold the popcorn up, but I think it's a bit better to get people really pumped.
After the popcorn I had another five innings until the 7th inning stretch. The boys I chose did great although one wasn't quite sure of the words which baffles my mind. I'm pretty sure I knew the words to that song as soon as I could talk (probably a bit of an exaggeration). After that I was done, and I watched the rest of the game. It was my last baseball game so that was kind of sad. Tomorrow is my last event all together and that is the spring game.
To end on a happy note, the Tigers beat the Crimson Tide 4-3!
